Responsibilities 

 

  • Ensure SQL Server Performance and Operability:
    • Monitor SQL server performance and intervene in case of issues.
    • Handle received alerts promptly.
  • Backup Policies and Verification:
    • Daily verification of backup job policies.
    • Investigate any backup-related issues.
  • Documentation and Procedures:
    • Document procedures, including AlwaysOn, backups, and database encryption.
    • Address tickets related to database adjustments, query execution, and impact analysis.
  • Direct User Assistance:
    • Respond to direct requests for assistance (e.g., snapshots, backups, database restoration, access and role management).
  • Monitoring and Optimization:
    • Create audits and profiles to assess database and server status.
    • Adjust server specifications based on physical resources (VMware, SSMS).
  • Data Growth Management:
    • Create jobs to control data growth (e.g., temp files, large query logs).
  • Business Intelligence (BI):
    • Backup, restore, and manage databases for BI tools like Power BI (PBI), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Stay Current:
    • Always use the latest version of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • Secure Failovers:
    • Execute secure failovers and verify database states post-failover.
  • SQL Azure Management:
    • Assist with adjustments for SQL Azure instances, elastic pools, and databases.
  • Preparation and Documentation:
    • Prepare and document new SQL database server setups.
    • Write MEP (Mise En Production) documents and execute corresponding DBA tasks.
  • Specific Projects:
    • Configure Backup Commvault, manage storage, containers, access keys, etc.
    • Handle operation tickets from the CEI team that are relevant to our department but not specifically DBA tasks.

 

Requirements 

 

  • Education and Experience:
    • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
    • Practical experience in SQL database administration.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in SQL Server, T-SQL, and SSMS.
    • Knowledge of Azure SQL Database is a plus.
    • Understanding of AlwaysOn concepts, data encryption, and backup strategies.
  • Personal Qualities:
    • Attention to detail, autonomy, and ability to solve complex problems.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.
